Jehovah’s Witnesses convention starts Friday in Rochester
More than 4,000 faithful are expected in Rochester this weekend to attend the Jehovah’s Witness convention that runs through Sunday at the Blue Cross Arena.
This is the first of three such events planned here this summer, and is expected to draw attendees from more than 25 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses from across western New York.
The convention has the theme “God’s Word is Truth!” and is free and open to the public.
“The convention theme this year is significant because it underscores a core family value for Jehovah’s Witnesses,” said J. R. Brown, Jehovah’s Witnesses spokesman. “Witness families embrace the Bible as the most trustworthy guide and source of advice in these troubled times. And we feel that the public will likewise benefit from and enjoy the varied and practical program.”
Communications director Leonard Rosselli said the hope is that anyone interested in hearing God’s word will attend.
“Families will really benefit from convention, there will be instruction and counsel for every member of the family,” he said.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses have held conventions in Rochester each year for more than a decade.
The event runs July 5, 6 and 7, with doors opening each day around 8 a.m. and programming running until around 5 p.m. For a program schedule, go to http://www.jw.org.
And if you are headed downtown, be prepared.
The influx for the convention puts a premium on parking spaces. That might be less of a problem this year because of people off for the long holiday weekend.
