The Jehovah’s Witness Church is holding their annual convention in Portage la Prairie over the next two weekends with event organizers expecting more than 4,000 visitors.
The church has chosen to hold their event at the PCU Centre from July 12-14 and 19-21 and are welcoming all Portagers to attend. This year’s convention theme is “God’s word if truth!” The program was launched in the United States during May and will continue worldwide through the end of December.
“The convention theme this year is significant because it underscores a close family value for Jehovah Witnesses,” stated J.R. Brown, spokesperson for the church, in a press release. “Witness families embrace the Bible as the most trustworthy guide and source of advice in these troubled times. We feel that the public will likewise benefit from and enjoy the varied and practical program.”
Personal Bible study is a priority for Jehovah’s Witnesses with each family setting aside a night of weekly family worship where the Bible is studied and researched, according to Brown.
“The convention this year will provide families and individuals with fresh new resources for family and personal Bible study,” stated Brown. “This is something new that Witnesses anticipate receiving each year from our convention programs.”
Some of the highlights during the convention include live-action dramas on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Also on Sundays, the Bible discussion “What is truth?” will also be discussed. For more on programming visit http://www.jw.org.
