First of three Jehovah’s Witness conventions this weekend
Ogden — Jehovah’s Witnesses are inviting all of their neighbors to attend their annual conventions starting this weekend at the Dee Events Center, 4400 Harrison Blvd. in Ogden.
The theme of this year’s program is “Keep Seeking First God’s Kingdom!”
“People of many faiths pray for God’s Kingdom,” said Jeff Tackett, a convention spokesman. “This convention will explain what that Kingdom is and how it can be a positive influence in our lives.”
Tackett said a highlight of the program in each of the conventions will be the keynote address, which will discuss how that Kingdom is benefiting people today.
“A core belief of Jehovah’s Witnesses, based on Biblical and historical evidence, is that Jesus Christ began to rule as the King of God’s Kingdom in 1914. The convention program marks this year as the centennial of that event.”
Starting this weekend, and continuing through July, Jehovah’s Witnesses will extend personal invitations to everyone from northern and central Utah to attend the convention with them.
Locally, all of the area’s 54 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supporting the activity of distributing printed invitations to the convention.
The first of three three-day events being held in Ogden this weekend is in Spanish.
The event begins at 9:20 a.m. today and Sunday.
The English conventions will be July 4-6 and July 25-27, beginning each day at 9:20 a.m.
There is no admission fee. Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations.
An estimated 21,000 will come to the Dee Events Center over three weekends in June and July for the Bible-based programs, stated a press release from the church.
Jehovah’s Witnesses in the United States plan to host 193 conventions in 71 cities. Worldwide, there are more than 7.9 million Witnesses in more than 113,000 congregations.
